Back at the wheel

Yesterday, I had my first driving lesson since failing my driving test quite spectacularly. I’ve got a new instructor, who’s based in Leicester- the theory being that there are less awful roundabouts for me to muck up.
This is all quite embarassing, as I’ve already had about sixty lessons, and now I’m being taught by a woman.

The above isn’t her- it’s just a humourous illustration of the contempt I had for woman driving instructors. In fact, since failing, I seem to have nothing but contempt for people who can drive. Bastards.
It wasn’t like any driving lesson I’ve had before, it was like Grand Theft Auto. The kids running into the road, Trick or Treating, were asking to be run over, and the darkness due to the clocks going back made the polygon pop-up awful. The textures and handling were very realistic though, on the bright side.
Luckily, she’d already heard about me smashing my mum’s car up on Christmas day (search the blog yourself, for that one) and my disasterous failure beforehand, so I didn’t have to try and diplomatically tell the stories in a way that wouldn’t make her fear my driving.
The lesson on the whole though was excellent- my new instructor tends to use the “carrot” approach, as opposed to the “stick” that I’d previously been “hit” repeatedly with. “You’re doing well” replaced “You’re going to die! I’m going to die! Everyone is going to die and my car insurance is going to sky rocket!”.
